Over the last few weeks, I’ve discussed getting out of our “comfort zone” and at the same time realize that your comfort zone may cause a lot of selfishness in your life. If we call selfishness what it is, we NEED to label it as SIN! The bottom line is that God wants you to turn from SIN in order to fulfill ALL He has for your life! What I find is that the “acceptable” sins are the ones that keep us locked down the most! By “acceptable,” I mean the ones like selfishness, pride, anger (righteous), control, fear, and the list goes on and on. These SINS are usually attached to some sort of logical personality trait and often recognized as our strengths as well. These sins are usually the hardest to break, because our identity is often wrapped up in them. For me, I’ve always been very organized and administrative oriented, and those skills lead to pride and certainly control.
Acts 3:19-20 (NIV)
19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus.
So, What… for This Week?
Are YOUR ready to call SIN in your life SIN? Don’t make excuses for your sin and say, “That is just the way I am!” God did give us gifts, but He didn’t mean for us to use those gifts in a prideful way in order to control our environment and others. Ultimately, we need to accept that God is in charge, NOT US! In order to turn back to God and received ALL He has for our life, we need to start recognizing those “acceptable” sins as WRONG!
Hey John – This is a great wake up/reminder/convicter. I’m sure sin is keeping me from experiencing everything God has for me.
Thank you,
