The last two posts have been hard ones, as I realized that the anxiety that I deal with is directly tied to the control that Victoria pointed out (as shared last week) in “You can’t change me, but you can still lead me!” I also had a dear friend call me out as a “control freak,” by telling me I was actually addicted to control. WOW, that hit hard, but it was SO good at the same time. My desire to control has been a life-long pursuit and even turned into part of my consulting business. When someone had the strength to actually point it out as an addiction, I saw it as a HUGE blind spot in my life and finally defined it as SIN! “Control” spends a lot of time occupying our HEADS and not following God’s Spirit!
Galatians 5:16-18 (NIV)
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
So, What… for This Week?
Are you a “control freak?” Ask those that you influence that will actually tell you the truth! Are you led by the Spirit, or are you playing God? I know these are hard questions to answer, but the answers make all the difference in your life. Don’t end up having anxiety because you tried to control EVERYTHING in your life. It’s the first lie of the enemy that we believe…That we are in control of ANYTHING! God is in CONTROL!
