If I break it down, the need to control in my life was based in FEAR. Fear of not getting things done the way I wanted them to. Fear of not being accepted. Fear of what people would think. The list goes on and on and started when I was just a little kid! We fear things we can’t control. Like surgery on loved ones, and things that threaten our kids and grandkids. Every time I forget a name or where we put my keys, I wonder if it’s early-onset dementia. I’d guess that we all overthink what people think of us. COVID, germs, war, being forgotten, wrinkles, conspiracies—all fear-fuel, at times. These fears make us want to then play God, oftentimes without even knowing it. God has our lives in His hands and we need to learn to trust Him with EVERYTHING!
So, What… for This Week?
1 John 4:18 (NIV)
18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
So, What… for This Week?
Is fear making you control things that only God can control? Is fear outweighing LOVE in your life? Are you walking in FEAR of FAITH most of the week? This week, do an audit and engage a spouse or friend to track how often you make decisions based on fear instead of faith. Then you will realize how much pressure you are putting on yourself to control your life, when God wants you to have peace and let Him do the driving.
