As I’ve been spending more time developing the ministry of Ignite Purpose, I’ve realized how little I listened in the past and how many times I thought I already had the answers.  As I work with millennials, I realize that even if I DO know some answers, I may not be asking the right questions.  In fact, it really doesn’t matter how much you know, verses how well you can listen and be empathetic.  I never set out to be a dictator, but in essence, that’s what I became.  I now realize that the better posture is one of a guide instead of the “answer man!”  People will learn if they are engaged properly and in order to engage them properly, we need to “guide” them down their OWN path.  I’ve spent the last 10 years as a consultant driving clients where I wanted them to go, instead of opening my ears, listening and then guiding them where God wants them to go!  BIG DIFFERENCE!  Jesus’s model for leadership is less about cohesion and control and more about example and invitation!

1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Ask yourself if you are a “guide” or a “dictator” with those you influence.  If you learn to ask more questions and engage people on their OWN journey instead of forcing them on YOUR path, you can meet them where they’re at and have much more positive influence in their lives!  Follow Jesus’s model of example and invitation

I hope this helps and you’ll take more time this week with God!

Love you!

Have a great week!
