You may think that as I share these messages, I am walking in total surrender, receiving the fullness of God’s love while I trust Him completely. I’m NOT, but I know the Bible tells us we can have that freedom. Choosing that freedom is a day-by-day, minute-by-minute decision! In order to do that, we all need to start by asking ourselves: Where am I not experiencing freedom in my life? This can be a hard question to answer honestly. We get so used to coping with our sin–rather than surrendering it to Christ–that we stop seeing the ways in which we live enslaved. The best way to find out what freedom looks like in our lives–or how we’re enslaving ourselves–is to spend more time in conversation with God.
Romans 6:16 (NLV)
16 Do you not know that when you give yourself as a servant to be owned by someone, that one becomes your owner? If you give yourself to sin, the end is death. If you give yourself to God, the end is being right with Him.
So, What… for This Week?
Start putting aside some time today–even setting a timer for 5 minutes is a great place to start–and asking God what is blocking you from experiencing freedom in your life. Then repent and confess the areas of you life where you are not experiencing freedom. Search your heart, and journal about those places where you are living enslaved instead of living free. Ask God to forgive you for trying to be “enough” on your own and then surrender every area of your heart where you’ve tried to be self-sufficient. Lastly, pray to hear God’s voice, receive His love (that is waiting for you), and rely on His strength instead of your own.
