Last week, I talked about having a “generative” mindset instead of a “formulaic” one.  There are SO many places in your life where you can apply this thinking.  Even religion can lead us to a formulaic way of thinking.  A strong relationship with Jesus on the other hand is actually generative.  If you’re just religious, it means you’ve learned to follow a lot of rules and you’re probably spending a lot of time frustrated, as you “white knuckle” through life.  On the other hand, if you allow a more generative relationship with Jesus, being guided by the Holy Spirit, you have to be more open to change and grow. If your heart becomes more generative, you will WANT to follow the laws of the Christian religion, without being a hypocrite at the same time.

Mark 12:33 (NIV)

To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

So, What… for This Week?

Do YOU like it when people say you’re RELIGIOUS?  I know that I DON’T!  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had that conversation with people.  Last week, I asked you to apply the “generative” verses “formulaic” mindset to relationships.  This week, I encourage you to do a deeper dive into your relationship with Jesus.  Are you a good rule follower, or are you really trying to lean in and generate a stronger relationship with God?  Break your old formulas and see what happens!
