Since I has neck surgery 2 1/2 year ago, I’ve tried everything to get past the continuing pain. You name it, I’ve tried it. Like everything else in my life, I even tried to control my healing (like most do). I spent 3 years chasing new healing techniques and finally found out I was chasing the wrong “fix.” Anyway, through the process, God has also been showing me that He is in control of our health too. Yeah, like I’ve been sharing for weeks, He’s in control of EVERYTHING! The reason my neck was messed up to begin with was my obsession with working out for over 45 years. Basically, I overdid it and most of my current body aches are self-inflicted. Over this time, God (and even my mom) have constantly challenged me to slow down (and be still, as I mentioned last week). Staying quiet and calm has never been a strong suit for me!
Exodus 14:14 (NLT)
14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
So, What… for This Week?
During my “neck journey,” one of my physical therapist suggested a book called “Relaxercise,” which is derived from The Feldenkrais Method of exercise therapy. Basically, what this book teaches is that your brain (and God) wants to heal your body, and instead, many of us spend a lifetime (in the gym, or with drugs) overriding our natural healing ability, by rewiring our brains NOT to heal. By breaking down our own bodies in the gym, we eventually hit a point where the body stops rebuilding from the constant trauma. I now see the spiritual comparison to that fact. When we continue to take control of everything, we are short-fusing what God made us for. He made us to submit to Him. He made our brains to heal our bodies and when we take control over that process, we lose control in the end. Check out this book and think about the how YOUR are “short-fusing” your spiritual (and physical) well being!
