There will be A LOT of angry people spewing all kind of hatred on social media this week because of this election! People on either side of the political fence will call their frustration “RIGHTEOUS!” The fact is the our anger usually is not righteous anger. Angry people usually justify their anger, saying it’s someone else’s fault, yet the Bible repeatedly warns us against giving in to our own anger. As James wrote in the verse below, when we give in to anger, we often focus on our own comfort or happiness. Instead, we should be primarily concerned about other people’s welfare, while being a good witness for God.
James 1:20 (NIV)
20 because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.
So, What… for This Week?
I think this week’s activity will prove that we are profoundly an angry culture. Be honest and think about when someone that we agree with “goes off” on someone that we disagree with…we applaud their anger. As Christians, let be an example this week (no matter what happens) and combat this “angry culture” with Jesus’ way of showing loving grace.
