Most of us have taken a personality test, or a gifting test and confirmed what we already knew about ourselves…We’re good at some things and not so good at others. When we lean too hard on our personal strengths, we have a tendency to turn away from God. We can stay stuck in what we feel we are already good at, and find comfort and stability in that lane, but it sometimes ends up being a rut and we don’t even know we are in it! That is why I’ve been challenging everyone to look hard at comfort, their selfish desires and even their strength zones, because most of this leads to sinful pride and distances us from God.
2 Corinthians 3:5
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
So, What… for This Week?
In order to recognize my constant temptation to stay comfortable, and selfish, while taking pride in my gifts, I have to stop and turn around. Yes, God is looking right over your shoulder, and if you choose to simply turn around 180 degrees, He is standing right behind you waiting for you to fully trust Him instead of your selfish desires (and even natural strengths). This is the active definition of repentance, so, turn (repent) 180 degrees as many times as it takes today to turn away from sin. Yeah, like me, you may get a little dizzy, but it will allow you to stop taking control of areas God does NOT want YOU to control!
