Today, we are joined by a remarkable woman of God, Joanna Sanders. Her journey, marked by rebellion, partying, and darkness, took an extraordinary turn when she encountered the profound love and transformation of Christ. Joanna’s story is a testament to the freedom found in surrendering to God’s love and embracing a new identity in Christ. Joanna’s life took a radical shift when she hit rock bottom, a place of deep loneliness and despair despite the facade of a vibrant social life. In her rebellion, she sought fulfillment in worldly pleasures, only to find herself in a place of darkness. It was at this juncture that she encountered the transformative power of Christ, breaking chains she didn’t even know existed. As she embraced God’s love and boundaries, her desires shifted, and a paradigm change unfolded. The following verse encapsulates Joanna’s journey from the old, self-destructive patterns to a new creation in Christ. It signifies the profound change that occurs when we submit our hearts to God’s transformative love.
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
So, What… for This Week?
- Agreement in Surrender: Acknowledge areas in your life where change is needed. Even if you don’t yet desire the change, come into agreement with God’s plan for transformation.
- Identification of God-Given Traits: Discover the unique traits and gifts God has placed in you. Joanna identified four names God calls her—Lover of Truth, Feeler, Writer, and Exhorter. Reflect on the qualities God has uniquely instilled in you.
- Situational Alignment: When facing decisions or challenges, refer to the traits God has identified in you. Ask yourself if the situation calls for one of these traits. This helps in aligning your response with your God-given identity.
- Freedom in Submission: Understand that submission to God’s ways brings true freedom. Surrendering areas of your life to Him allows for His transformative work, leading to a life marked by joy, purpose, and fulfillment.
Joanna’s story reminds us that God’s transformation is a continuous process. By submitting our hearts to Him and embracing the identity He has uniquely designed for us, we find true freedom and purpose. It’s an ongoing journey of discovery, surrender, and joy in becoming the new creation God intended us to be.
